His Excellency Wolfgang Dold will enlighten us about the challenges brought by the COVID-19 crisis within embassies and how he and his team managed to provide reassurance and help to German citizens abroad when borders where closing. Ambassador Dold will unveil the realities of health diplomacy and the impact that the COVID-19 crisis had on them.
This event will be held in IE’s Aula Magna. Due to the health situation, tickets will be capped to ensure the room capacity is kept at safe levels. Only people with a green health passport will be allowed on campus.

Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Spain
Ambassador Dold has a license in law. He joined the German Foreign Service in 1988.
From 1990 to 1994 Dold was the Ambassador's permanent representative at the German Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal.
He then worked at the Foreign Office in Berlin in the personnel department for the higher service.
From 1997 to 2000, he worked as a political officer at the Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.
In 2000, he returned to the personnel department as deputy head of unit in Berlin. From 2003 to 2006 he worked as permanent representative at the Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa.
He then worked in the Foreign Office for six years, initially as Head of General Personnel Affairs and, from 2007 to 2009 as Officer for the budget and from 2009 to 2012 as officer for infrastructure.
In March 2012, he was appointed ambassador to Athens, Greece.
From 2014 to 2018, Ambassador Dold headed the central department of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin as a ministerial director.
In September 2018, he became Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Spain.
