Recap: Public Speaking Workshop

On February 9th, the Yes Theory Club partnered up with the Public Speaking Club and co-hosted an event called “Conquer your fear of public speaking.” The idea was to help anyone improve their public speaking skills, and motivate those who are normally afraid of speaking in front of a crowd. During the workshop, we introduced both clubs, gave a brief presentation on some tips to overcome this fear, and talked about improving our performance when speaking in public. In addition, we hosted a little exercise in which participants had to talk for one minute on a random topic, and received feedback on their performance. It was great to see some of you there!

For your convenience, we will leave a few tips that were mentioned during the workshop: use the space in which you are standing, make eye contact with the audience, use hand gestures (but do not overuse them!), be careful with filling words (such as umm, yeah, so, etc), make pauses when necessary.

Recap: Facing Fears Friday!

As you may have seen on our instagram, we started a new series on our account called “Facing Fears Friday”, where our members get to share their experiences on facing a particular fear. We have had three of our members take over our account to share their different experiences. We are excited to see our members taking different challenges, and talking about it on our account. These experiences have ranged from starting a new business, to skydiving, to moving to a new country without speaking the same language as everyone else. Hope you had the chance of watching our stories throughout these past three weeks, and stay tuned for our next member taking over our account this week.

Upcoming: Surprise Event

For our next event, we have organized two different and very exciting options. However, we would like to give our members the opportunity to be part of this process, and would love to see all of you vote on our instagram account to help us choose our next event. Stay tuned to our stories this week in order to choose your preferred event!

Opportunities: Event Planner Manager

As you know, we have opened some spots to continue expanding our coordinating team and the club itself. For this reason, we would like to give out some more details about the new position we have available, a new event planner manager. This is a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and help organize events for our club. In addition, this will help you improve your teamwork skills, as well as your CV.

Being an event coordinator means coming up with event ideas whether on campus or online, managing the events on Campus Groups, and making event summaries. We are looking for someone: creative, organized, determined, willing to take risks and step out of their comfort zone!
