IE values the Humanities as a key element in understanding the reality of the world we live in through a global vision and the application of critical thinking. According to many recent studies, studying the Humanities benefits society, individuals and employers. IE Humanities Week 2019 will explore why Humanities matter through a series of workshops, speaker sessions, panels, debates, off-campus arts exhibitions, and more.

Mirenchu Villa is the Deputy General Manager of International Business and Investee Companies at Grupo Mutua Madrileña and is Vice-Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of BCI Seguros, Chile’s leading non-life insurance company in which Mutua Madrileña owns a stake. Mirenchu is also a member of the Board of Directors of SegurCaixaAdeslas, a leading health insurance and bank-insurance company in Spain that is integrated into the Mutua’s corporate group.

With over 25 years of experience in the insurance business, Mirenchu Villa has played a key role in diversifying Mutua, which includes forming a bank-insurance alliance with CaixaBank, buying 50% of SegurCaixaAdeslas, and acquiring 40% of the Chilean company BCI Seguros.

Before joining Grupo Mutua, she worked as a consultant at McKinsey for eleven years, and later in CESCE and AON Spain, where she held different positions until joining Mutua in 2004 as Business Development Director.

During her 15 years at Mutua Madrileña, she has been in charge of different management areas and has worked in both the group’s corporate development and in managing its businesses.

She has held several roles at Grupo Mutua, including General Manager of Management Control, Strategic and Financial Policy, and Deputy General Manager of Insurance Business from 2015 to 2018, overseeing the management of all insurance branches in which the group operates. Mutua ended the year as Spain’s leading company in general insurance.

Mirenchu Villa has a degree in Ancient and Medieval History and graduated with honours from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1985. She has also taught at several business schools.

Evelio joined the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection Foundation in 2012 as Managing Director. Previously he worked for Barclays Spain as Head of Corporate Responsibility and Managing Director of The Barclays Foundation. In Barclays he undertook various responsibilities heading several areas such as PR & Corporate Communication, the Country Manager Office, Customer Relations and International Securities Services.

His background has always been the financial industry working also for Banco Sabadell Madrid and London (Corporate Banking, International Trade Finance) and Banco Santander Madrid (Foreing Exchange and International Division).

Evelio studied Law at the Complutense University (Madrid) and Public Relations and Corporate Communications at CENP School in Madrid. He did and Executive Programme in Corporate Responsibility at the Madrid IE Business School.
