It’s 2021. The USA APA/AAPI community is at a crossroads -- disproportionately suffering through the Corona pandemic as victims of a 164% surge in anti-Asian hate crimes while overall hates crimes are down 7% over the same period. This is the opportunity to wake up and meet the moment. Our community is called to take a stand in the fight against racism and #Stopthehate.

Join the IE North America Alumni community for this interactive Teach-In in celebration of Asian and Pacific island Heritage Month. This event is open to all, no matter your location or origin.

As the fastest growing racial group in the US and 23mm strong, the cultural, economic, and political influence of this community can not be ignored: "Companies started by AAPI founders helped this country get through the pandemic. Eric Yuan connected us with Zoom. Tony Xu, Stanley Tang and Andy Fang kept us fed with DoorDash. Hisao Kushi and Yony Feng kept us in shape with Peloton. Niraj Shah made us comfortable at home with Wayfair. And Steve Chen entertained us with YouTube."

We will use story to inspire us all to become informed and influential in moving the country and world forward. Although the reflections will be told through a North America lens, it is one with global repercussions – both through the direct relevance of American politics and through the parallel stories of racism that shape many countries.

The approach is dynamic – part watch party, part teaching, part training. We will see a cross section of diverse Asian voices across ethnicity, mixed race, age, gender, sexual orientation and class while sharing personal reflections and expressions.

Agenda (all times in Eastern Time):
6 PM - History & Solidarity
6:40 PM - Alumni Narratives & Ally Tools
7:30 PM - Meetup Breakouts
