Big Data and Business Analytics are two concepts that have been on the rise of their popularity in the recent days and have captured attention of millions. However, since the terms are so new, there has been plenty of misconceptions around the topic. At this event, IE would like to shed light upon the topic of Big Data. Our professor will first share with you why Big Data and Data Science are so powerful for any business nowadays, followed by a corporate topic speaker and a startup one who will share with us their vision about Big Data on their sector. Having different angles about this topic will let us figure out what are the truths and what are the lies behind Big Data.

Marc Torrens

Marc Torrens is the CTO and Co-Founder of Strands Labs.

He has work experience as Scientific Advisor at Datumize, Scientific Advisor at Chicisimo, Postdoc Researcher EPFL, CTO and Co-Founder Iconomic Systems.
He holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence by EPFL and has worked abroad for 12 years in Switzerland and US.

Norbert Kraft

Norbert Kraft works in Telecom industry since 1991. He held several positions in research, development and system engineering for wide area network equipment. Now he is at Nokia Bell Labs, where he is doing research in the area of network data intelligence, data mining, machine learning, big data technologies and artificial intelligence. These technologies are key factors to derive insights, to improve network management and customer experience of mobile networks.

Norbert will talk about Big Data and Business Analytics in telecommunication industry, which will reflect the view on the topic from the corporate perspective.

Tom Rauhe

Tom Rauhe studied Logic and Theory of Science at LMU Munich. After 8 years of self employment working for various Publishers and Agencies, he realized in 2012 the possibilities of location based mobile marketing.
That’s why in 2013, he founded the mobalo GmbH together with Dr. Michael Ihne and Manfred Kuhn, which is leading in data driven location based mobile advertising and geo fraud analysis.

Tom will talk about misconceptions about Big Data, how much Data we generate and analyze, how that changed, challenges we encounter(ed), how that's (probably) different to a corporate, how we visualize Big Data, and a bit about what it means to found a startup in Germany.
