The event will take place on Wednesday, January 23rd, from 19:00 until 22:00 and it will be held at at Olissippo Lapa Palace, Rua do Pau de Bandeira, 4.
The purpose of this event is to bring together the Alumni community with collaborating partners in Portugal around the topic of World Economic Outlook: Trade Wars, Brexit, and Uncertainty in Emerging Countries:
10 years after the "Great Recession" the world has recovered, although at different speeds in different parts of the world. When it seemed that growth was consolidating in most regions of the world, some political changes have increased uncertainty worldwide. The election of Donald Trump as President of the United States has led to a questioning of Free Trade as a critical element in economic growth and development, which constituted a fundamental basis of globalization in recent decades. At the same time, the Brexit vote has led to what some analysts call an “existential crisis” in Europe, and changes in monetary policies and capital flows have created new conditions that increase uncertainty in emerging markets. This Master Class will present the current state of the economy in several regions and countries and will discuss the potential future implications of the changes that we are witnessing at the local and global environment.
The master class will be delivered by Gonzalo Garland, the Vice President for External Relations at IE Business School, where he is also a member of the Executive Committee. Prior to this, he was Director General of International Relations, Vice Dean for Faculty, and Director of the Economics Department. He studied economics at Universidad del Pacifico in Lima, Peru, and at the Universities of Stanford and Pennsylvania in the United States. At present, he combines his management responsibilities with teaching courses on Managerial Economics, Country Analysis and Economic Development Theory.
Furthermore, the VP of Alumni and Careers will join the event, together with the International Development team at IE.
We hope to see you there.
