We would like to invite you to an inspiring talk about Geopolitics:  Myths and Realities for Business with IE Professor Milo Jones on the 25th October. Professor Jones will be holding this session to discuss myths and realities for business.

It’s easy to finish a business degree with the unconscious assumption that you’ll gain a competitive advantage through a careful reading of newspapers. You won’t. You’re also unlikely to succeed by applying stale “strategic” frameworks like the BCG Matrix (which dates back to 1968), Porter's Five Forces (created in 1979), or Value Chain Analysis (introduced in 1985). Anyone who has studied business in the last 30 years – including your competition – uses these. They also probably read the same newspapers you do. This “Business Strategy 101” toolkit is like the white shirts in your closet: always safe, sometimes useful, but not a decisive business edge.  Your future business success depends on at least two factors: luck, and the quality of the assumptions that underlie your strategies. Many of these assumptions lie in the realm of Geopolitics. This master class argues that you should consciously question these geopolitical strategic assumptions, and gives you a few basic ideas to start doing so.

The event agenda:
  • 18:30-18:50 Registration
  • 18:50-19:00 IE introduction
  • 19:00-20:30 Master Class
  • 20:30-21:30 Networking cocktail
Location will be communicated upon registration.
